Between Wild Orange Trees

This EP features three contrasting piano pieces. A line taken from the exemplary work in magical realis: 100 years of solitude by Marquez, Between Wild Orange Trees also reflects the nostalgic inspirations of the works. Drawing on memories of her rural childhood in north west Victoria, where the summers are long and dry, and in the winter months oranges grow in abundance. This rich warmth is reflected in the opening track, Summer dreaming. Chapter ii is about moving forward, and The story that was is the longing for a life, a love or a time that has passed.

Leaf cycle

Leaf cycle was originally created as a collaborative work with Spanish artist Juan Zamora. During Zamora's residency at Cultureland in 2018 he studied cycles of life in nature and the constant process of transformation. He collected plants in the garden at Buitenwerkplaats, fascinated by the pattern of holes made by hungry caterpillars on the leaves. He captured ‘hunger’ in a drawing on paper, picturing the leaves with the pattern on a music sheet. This "composition"was interpreted by several musicians, including Christina, who were instructed to be hungry while performing.
Christina then submitted the work for Blue Spiral Records 2018 composition competition, which was selected from hundreds of applicants to be released as part of the Minimal Piano series Vol. II

The girl

Christina's debut single, The girl, was written and recorded in Sydney in 2018. The official release is actually an abridged version of what was initially a much longer piece. (The original can be found on Soundcloud.) Inspired by time Christina spent in provincial France as a young adult, this piece tells the story of a girl growing up.
